WHAT: SAVE A LIFE! In an effort to make people of all ages aware of heart conditions that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest, the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center is partnering with local nonprofit Living for Zacharyto host the “SuperHeart Health & Wellness Block Party” on Saturday (March 23) from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center. Free and open to the public, the event kicks off with the SaveStation ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m., marking the fourth AED installation at the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center.

The SaveStation is part of Living for Zachary’s SuperHeart program, as they fulfill their mission to prevent sudden cardiac arrest in youth athletes. Throughout the day, families can learn about the importance of AEDs and how to access and administer them if ever needed.

The block party will feature free blood pressure screenings, CPR demos, tug of war, raffle drawings, kids crafts, grilling demos, a deejay, and the Mavs Maniacs. Other highlights include paint and plant crafts, gardening, fitness demos, sack races, and more, basketball enthusiasts can participate in the Red Out basketball games. (Youth will scrimmage on the outdoor courts, and adults will play indoors.)

The family-fun activities will encourage all ages – from students to older adults – to be aware and proactive about their heart health.

WHY: Sudden cardiac arrest is the #1 killer of student-athletes. With spring activities and sports in full swing, all ages need to be aware and know how to prevent and handle emergencies if they arise.  Parents of student-athletes will be urged to set up appointments for physicals, which are required by the UIL for participation in school sports.

Living for Zachary was founded in 2009 in honor of Zachary Schrah, who was only 16 years old when he collapsed without warning during a high school football practice in Plano. After Zachary’s death, his mother Karen founded Living for Zachary.  Since its inception, the nonprofit has impacted thousands of families and children across Texas through youth heart screenings, AED donations, CPR/AED certification classes, scholarships and awareness events.

WHO: Representatives from the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center, Living for Zachary, Save a Life, Children’s Health, Action First Aid, Texas Department of Public Safety, Dallas Fire-Rescue and the Dallas Police Department will be on site offering CPR demos, activities and a wealth of information on sudden cardiac arrest and healthy living.

WHEN: Saturday (March 23) from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for SaveStation happening at 11 a.m., marking the fourth AED installation at the Center

WHERE: The Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center is located at 1800 Bonnie View Rd., Dallas, TX 75216.
