The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has recognized the 1910 Mob Attack and Lynching of Allen Brooks as a significant part of Texas history by awarding it an Official Texas Historical Marker. The designation honors this traumatic event as an important and educational part of local Dallas history. The marker will be installed outside the southwest corner of the Old Red Courthouse, near the 2nd floor window from which an angry mob threw Mr. Brooks as he awaited his trial. From there he was dragged ½ mile down Main Street to Akard, where he was hung from a telephone pole, as witnessed by an estimated 5,000 people. No one was ever held responsible for this violent attack and murder.

A dedication ceremony was held on Thursday, July 27 in the Lobby of the Old Red Courthouse, 100 S. Houston St., Dallas 75202. Dr. Michael W. Waters was the emcee and speakers will included: Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins, Commissioner John Wiley Price, Ed Gray, Rev. Dr. Andy Stoker, Rev. Virzola Law, Rev. Yulise Reaves Waters, Esq., Dr. Deborah Hopes, Amber Sims and Dr. Christopher Dowdy.
