Emma Gale Thomas, affectionately known to family and friends simply as Gale, was born on May 20, 1950, in Marks, Mississippi. On May 14, 2026

Emma Gale Thomas, affectionately known to family and friends simply as Gale, was born on May 20, 1950, in Marks, Mississippi. On May 14, 2026, she peacefully transitioned from this life, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many loved ones whose lives she touched so deeply. Gale was the cherished daughter of the late Joshua Hall and Helen Hobson. Gale was more than a mother and grandmother—she was the heart of the family, a multi-generational matriarch whose strength, wisdom, and unconditional love became the foundation upon which generations were built. At just 25 years old, Gale faced one of life’s greatest challenges when she was widowed after the passing of her beloved husband, Ronald Thomas Sr. Despite the unimaginable burden of raising young children on her own, she met the moment with extraordinary courage, resilience, and determination. She devoted her life to raising her children: Ronald Thomas Jr., Helen Thomas, Gregory Thomas, and later Peter Davie. Long before becoming a mother, Gale had already embraced responsibility as the oldest of nine siblings, helping to care for and guide her brothers and sisters. Nurturing others was not simply something she did—it was who she was. Gale was the family historian, the keeper of memories, and the central hub to whom everyone turned for guidance, wisdom, and historical context. She possessed a remarkable memory and an archive of family stories that connected generations. If anyone wanted to know where they came from, they went to Gale. Her home was a sanctuary. She never hesitated to open her doors to relatives and friends who needed a place to stay, a warm meal, or a listening ear. She offered help without judgment, love without condition, and honesty without apology. Gale was mentally strong, fiercely independent, and deeply courageous. Her honesty was direct, her love was ferocious, and her presence was unforgettable. She had a radiant spirit and a commanding yet comforting presence that left an indelible mark on everyone blessed to know her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald Thomas, Sr. (“Sonny”); her mother, Helen Cannon; her sisters, Pastor Bonnie Flemming and Joyce Gilmore; and her brothers, Gene Price and Vincent Price. Gale leaves to cherish her precious memory her children: Ronald Thomas Jr., Helen Thomas, Gregory Thomas (Wife Tonya Thomas), and Peter Davie. She is also survived by her siblings: Jacquelyn (Jackie) Price, Jimmie Grey, Frank McCall Price, and Oliver McCall. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Demarkis Thomas, Blair Bell, Shuntie Ogunniyi, Taylor Culver, Ariel Thomas, Shenita Thompson, Shannon Thompson, Ron Jimmar Thomas, Travis Thomas, Madisen Thomas, London Thomas, Ternisha Davie, Shakitra Perkins, Ja’quan Davie, and Shanaya Davie. She was further blessed with great-grandchildren: London Bell, Rocxy Burleson, A’ymaria Hunter, Mya Thomas, Kendrick Hunter, Reginald, Malyia, Addison Thomas, Darian Thomas, A’vaia Humphrey, Kardiar Perkins, Kentris Humphrey, Dax, Tamaya Thomas, and Tarajae Thomas. Emma Gale Thomas will be remembered for her unwavering leadership, her selfless sacrifices, her fierce devotion to her family, and the love and joy she gave so freely. Her life was a testament to perseverance, faith, and unconditional love. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the values she instilled, the lessons she taught, and the generations she shaped. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and eternally cherished.
