DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TX— Standing at the absolute forefront of community celebration, The Vernas Help Foundation is proud to be the first to extend its warmest and most enthusiastic congratulations to the powerhouse slate of Black women leaders who made history during Tuesday night’s election. In an unprecedented turning point for representation and equitable justice, voters across Dallas and Tarrant Counties have completely reshaped the landscape of leadership in Texas. As an organization dedicated to uplifting our community, we proudly lead the region in honoring these phenomenal, history-making executives and jurists:
- Alisa Simmons, Tarrant County Judge-Elect: Shattering a 40-year streak, Judge-Elect Simmons has made history as the first Democrat in four decades and the first-ever Black County Judge elected to lead Tarrant County.
- Tiffany Burks, Tarrant County District Attorney Elect: Breaking barriers in the courtroom and executive leadership, DA-Elect Burks secures her place in the history books as the first Black District Attorney elected in Tarrant County history.
- Amber Givens, Dallas County District Attorney Elect: Continuing a legacy of trailblazing public service, DA-Elect Givens cements her historic milestone as the first Black woman elected to serve as Dallas County District Attorney.
For the first time in Texas history, the top law enforcement offices for both the Dallas and Fort Worth regions will be led simultaneously by Black women. Alongside a transformative new era for the Tarrant County Commissioners Court, these victories provide a direct, beautiful reflection of the diverse communities these brilliant leaders have sworn to serve and protect.”The Vernas Help Foundation wanted to be the very first to lift these extraordinary women because their victories represent a monumental leap forward for everyone in North Texas,” said Verna Melton, Founder of The Vernas Help Foundation. “These brilliant leaders didn’t just win an election—they broke open heavy doors that had been closed to Black women. Their victories send an undeniable signal to every young girl of color in Texas that no room, court, or executive office is out of her reach. We celebrate their excellence, and we stand ready to support the safer, more just, and equitable future they will build for all of us.”These history-makers ran campaigns rooted deeply in community, fairness, and accountability. Their historic wins stand as a permanent testament to the resilience, excellence, and organizational power of Black women leaders across the Lone Star State.About The Verna’s Help Foundation:
