James Talarico jumped in the Texas Senate race early and worked hard duplicating Beto’s strategy to visit state-wide. However, party interference with voter outreach, fundraising, endorsements, media coverage, plus pre-existing voter bias, all leveraged to Talarico’s benefit—did not make it a fair fight.
We need Talarico in office but we also need to trust him. What will that take? I suggest acknowledgement of how he benefitted from race and gender bias and a commitment to work to address and level the playing field going forward, maybe a commitment to help Jasmine Crockett if she runs for Senate in 2028.
Yes, women, people of color, migrants, elderly and disabled, LGBTQ+, workers and low-income groups- WE ARE ALL under attack by the Republican party. Lies and division are used to distract while 99% of us are being made poorer and sicker to make the 1% richer.
Therefore, some say that women of color need to “take one for the team” and be happy because “at least” we are treated better by the Democratic Party than the Republican Party; especially given the great need for Democrats to take Congress during the mid-terms.
Should women continue to accept “at least”, to be stabbed in the back and kicked in the teeth, yet submit to party demands that we remain silent to these abuses, hold hands and sing Kumbaya?
Unity, justice and equal treatment, is what God demands; regardless of religion, race, gender, or socio-economic status per Galatians 3:28. Unity values and welcomes all to the table, not relegating any to the plate. If we do not demand full and equal citizenship now, when the party NEEDS us to vote, there may not be another chance. It is exactly because the dangers of this administration are so greatly affecting America that the party should be uniting and equally valuing all —women, people of color, EVERY marginalized and oppressed group. Shouldn’t the party demonstrate we are a team by standing up for us now?
I face the same discrimination and party dysfunction in my race. I was unopposed for this same seat in 2024 and did not give up fighting for this district providing immediate notice I would run again in 2026.
Party leaders specifically recruited and are supporting my white female opponent on the false premise that a woman of color can’t win against the MAGA GOP incumbent, Lance Gooden in this gerrymandered district.
Party leaders not only recruited my opponent, but have acted as campaign consultants and management by helping pay her way on the ballot, only invite my opponent to meetings, events and block-walks, arranged meet & greets for her, have precinct chairs passing out only her campaign materials, and endorsements from groups that never included me in the screening. When I pointed out factual discriminatory, dysfunctional and retaliatory actions asking for enforcement of party rules and practices for equal treatment, I was called a divisive troublemaker that wants special treatment that should be ignored —by the Texas Democratic Party Chair, Kendall Scudder to my county chairs!
