Dallas ISD cancels Wednesday classes. See which North Texas schools will stay closed

Dallas-Fort Worth temperatures are expected to dip below freezing overnight, potentially creating icy conditions Wednesday.

With frigid weather predicted to persist into the middle of the week and roads thawing slowly, North Texas school districts, including Dallas, Denton and Fort Worth, began announcing closures for Wednesday.

Most school districts and colleges either canceled classes or shifted them online Monday and Tuesday, as roads remained slippery. Most interstates and highways had several lanes cleared, according to Texas Department of Transportation’s cameras. On most neighborhood streets, ice and snow remained a hazard.

While temperatures are expected to dip back into the low 20s overnight, potentially creating icy conditions Wednesday morning.

Here’s what we know so far.

Anna ISD

The district said it will remain closed Wednesday. Anna ISD said it plans to start school at 10 a.m. on Thursday, with buses running on a two-hour delay.

Argyle ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday. All after-school activities for Wednesday are canceled.

Arlington ISD

Schools will be closed Wednesday.

Aubrey ISD

All campuses and offices will remain closed Wednesday.

Azle ISD

Azle ISD will remain closed Wednesday.

Birdville ISD

The district will remain closed Wednesday.

Carrollton-Farmers Branch

The district said its schools will remain closed on Wednesday. “Any plans to account for missed instructional days will be shared at a later date,” the district said in social media post.

Cedar Hill ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday. All extracurricular, athletic, and after-school activities are canceled or will be rescheduled.

Carrollton-Farmers Branch

The district said its schools will remain closed on Wednesday. “Any plans to account for missed instructional days will be shared at a later date,” the district said in social media post.

Cedar Hill ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday. All extracurricular, athletic, and after-school activities are canceled or will be rescheduled.

Corsicana ISD

Corsicana ISD schools and administration will be closed Wednesday “due to concerns over the safety of roads, specifically rural roads, with refreezing surfaces and the potential of freezing fog until mid-morning,” the district said Tuesday afternoon.

Crandall ISD

Crandall ISD will remain closed Wednesday. The district said thatit does not need to schedule any make-up days.

“Crandall ISD has three banked instructional days built into the calendar (that we used this week),” the district said. “If additional closures are needed, we will use our designated bad weather days as outlined in the district calendar.”

Crowley ISD

Crowley ISD will remain closed Wednesday. The district said it may need to make for some of the time missed.

“We are waiting for guidance from the Texas Education Agency and will share updates as soon as we receive them,” the district said.

Dallas ISD

The district said schools will remain closed on Wednesday. All athletic events and practices, both indoor and outdoor, are postponed.

Denton ISD

Denton ISD campuses will remain closed Wednesday, and all before- and after-school activities are canceled.

DeSoto ISD

The district said schools will remain closed Wednesday. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled or will be rescheduled.

Duncanville ISD

The district said it will remain closed Wednesday.

Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD

Wednesday classes have been canceled. “We look forward to seeing all of our students back at school, on time on Thursday, Jan. 29,” the district said.

Ennis ISD

School is canceled for Wednesday.

Everman ISD

The district will remain closed on Wednesday.

Farmersville ISD

Officials in the Collin County district announced Tuesday that schools would remain closed Wednesday.

Ferris ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday. All extra-curricular activities have been canceled.

Frisco ISD

Frisco ISD will be closed Wednesday. The district said it “will file a waiver for the missed school days with the Texas Education Agency.” If the waiver is approved, no make-up days will be needed.

Forney ISD

All campuses will remain closed Wednesday. Coaches and sponsors will be reach out regarding Wednesday evening activities, the district said.

Fort Worth ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday. All athletics, after-school programs and activities set for Wednesday are canceled or will be rescheduled.

Garland ISD

The district will keep schools and district offices closed on Wednesday. The district said it will share information about make-up dates as soon as it becomes available.

Grand Prairie ISD

The district said all Grand Prairie ISD schools and office will remain closed Wednesday.

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD will be closed again Wednesday. Practices and activities are canceled.

Harmony Public Schools

All Harmony Public Schools–North Texas and Waco schools and facilities will remain closed Wednesday.

Highland Park ISD

All Highland Park schools and facilities will be closed Wednesday. Coaches and directors will provide updates to students and families about extracurricular events.

Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD

Classes are canceled Wednesday, HEB ISD officials said. Watch for additional communication about whether scheduled after-school and evening activities are canceled.

Irving ISD

All classes, after-school and UIL activities set for Wednesday are canceled. The district said it expects to resume classes on Thursday.

Kaufman ISD

Kaufman ISD will be closed on Wednesday.Kemp ISD

The district will remain closed on Wednesday. Evening athletic events, practices, and extracurricular activities may resume as scheduled on Wednesday.

Keller ISD

Schools are closed Wednesday, district officials said Tuesday afternoon.

Krum ISD

District schools will remain closed Wednesday.

Lancaster ISD

Lancaster ISD will remain closed on Wednesday.

Lake Dallas ISD

District schools will remain closed Wednesday.

Lake Worth ISD

District schools will remain closed Wednesday.

Lewisville ISD

All Lewisville ISD campuses and facilities will remain closed Wednesday. All extracurricular activities and campus events scheduled for Wednesday will be canceled or rescheduled.

Little Elm ISD

School is canceled Wednesday,

“For athletic events scheduled for Wednesday, we’ll keep a close eye on conditions and the coaching staff will communicate if plans change,” the district said.

Lovejoy ISD

Lovejoy ISD schools and administration will remain closed Wednesday. The district will make-up Wednesday’s snow day on March 23.

Mabank ISD

Mabank ISD will be closed Wednesday.

Mansfield ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday. A decision on after-school activities is pending.

McKinney ISD

Schools in the Collin County district will remain closed Wednesday.

Melissa ISD

District schools will remain closed Wednesday.

“Our current school calendar already includes additional instructional minutes,” the district said in a social media post, “so this closure will not affect the school calendar, and no Bad Weather Days will need to be used at this time.”

Mesquite ISD

Schools will remain closed on Wednesday. The district said that given the current forecast, it has “every reason to believe we can resume a regular school schedule on Thursday.”

Midlothian ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday.

Northwest ISD

Classes are canceled Wednesday, district officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

Plano ISD

Plano ISD schools will remain closed Wednesday. All district and campus activities are canceled.

Princeton ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday.

Prosper ISD

Schools will be closed Wednesday.

Red Oak ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday. ROHS Discovery Night has been rescheduled for Feb. 3.

Richardson ISD

Richardson ISD schools and offices will remain closed Wednesday.

Rockwall ISD

All district campuses and offices will remain closed Wednesday.

Sanger ISD

Wednesday classes are canceled. No extracurricular activities will be held.

Scurry-Rosser ISD

The Kaufman County district will be closed Wednesday instead of operating on a delayed start.

Southlake Carroll ISD

Carroll ISD schools and office will remain closed Wednesday. The district said there’s a chance afternoon varsity practices may be held Wednesday, “pending safe road conditions.” Student-athletes should check SportsYou for updates from their coaches.

Sunnyvale ISD

Sunnyvale schools will remain closed Wednesday.

Terrell ISD

Schools and offices will be closed Wednesday. All school athletic and extracurricular activities will be canceled or rescheduled.

Van Alstyne ISD

The district will remain closed Wednesday.

Waxahachie ISD

Waxahachie ISD campuses and offices will remain closed Wednesday.

Weatherford ISD

Weatherford ISD schools and offices will stay closed Wednesday. All evening activities scheduled for Wednesday are canceled.

White Settlement ISD

Schools will remain closed Wednesday.

Wills Point ISD

The district has canceled Wednesday classes.

Wylie ISD

District schools will remain closed Wednesday. Friday May 22, will not be a school day, the district said in a social media post, to make up for the lost instructional time.

North Texas colleges and University closures

Collin College

All Collin College campuses will remain closed Wednesday. All classes and activities are canceled.

Dallas Baptist University

The Dallas Baptist University campus will be closed Wednesday and classes will take place virtually. Campus facilities — including the library, dining hall, DBU Coffeehouse, and Fitness Center — will have modified hours.

Dallas College

All Dallas College locations will remain closed Wednesday, and students and staff will continue online, the university said.

Southern Methodist University

In-person classes at SMU will be canceled Wednesday. Some graduate and professional classes may be held online. University officials said in-person classes and normal campus operations will resume Thursday.

Tarrant County College

TCC campuses will remain closed Wednesday. In-person classes and student services are remote. Employees will work remotely, TCC said. Students should contact their professors for updates about coursework.

Texas Christian University

The Fort Worth campus will remain closed Wednesday. All classes and activities are canceled.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

The Dallas medical school campus and the Mansfield campus will remain closed Wednesday, university officials said. On-campus activities and classes are canceled, while remote activities will continue.

Texas Wesleyan University

The Texas Wesleyan University campus will remain closed Wednesday. Students and staff will operate virtually.

Texas Woman’s University

The TWU Dallas and Denton campuses are closed Wednesday. Remote work and teaching will continue for faculty, staff and students, the university said.

University of Dallas

The Irving campus of University of Dallas will remain closed Wednesday. In-person classes are canceled. Online courses “may continue at the instructor’s discretion,” the university said.

Essential services such as police and dining will remain open.

University of Texas at Arlington

The university campus will remain closed Wednesday, and students and staff will continue with online instruction and remote work for non-essential employees, UTA said.

University of North Texas

The UNT System said its Denton and Frisco campuses will remain closed on Wednesday.

UNT Dallas and the College of Law will continue with remote work on Wednesday.

University of Texas at Dallas

The Richardson campus will remain closed Wednesday.
