BIG MAMA SAID: “Be Still, And Know That I Am God:” Psalm 46:10

By Terry Allen

In a world inundated with noise, Big Mama’s voice stood out as a beacon of wisdom and faith, guiding not only her immediate family but a vast audience of 235 relatives, spanning generations.

Her profound statement, quoting Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God,” resonates deeply with those who had the privilege of knowing her. It serves as a reminder to slow down, connect, and understand the essence of life.

Big Mama, also known as Lucille Allen, was more than a matriarch; she was a source of inspiration. Her values, rooted in faith and familial bonds, shaped the life decisions of many, including the author of the statement.

Reflecting on her influence, it becomes evident that knowing God isn’t merely about theological knowledge but about personal connection and acknowledgment.

To truly understand, one must engage in a journey of surrender and introspection. By loosening the grip on control and embracing vulnerability, individuals can deepen their relationship with the divine and with each other. It’s about connecting the dots between faith, family, and personal growth.

In a society plagued by mis-information and falsehoods, Big Mama’s message offers a remedy.

Here are four steps inspired by her wisdom:

Practice Stillness-Set aside time each day to be still, meditate, and reflect. In the quiet, let clarity emerge, allowing for a deeper understanding of your place in the noise of the world.

Engage in Deeper Conversations – Foster open and honest dialogues with loved ones and acquaintances. By listening with empathy and respect, we can bridge divides and foster mutual understanding.

Seek Truth and Discernment- Be discerning in consuming information. Big Mama also said. “TRUST BUT VERIFY” Verify sources and challenge assumptions. Just be truth-seeking rather than perpetuating falsehoods.

Cultivate Compassion – Approach interactions with kindness and compassion.

Recognize the humanity in others, even those with differing beliefs or opinions. The “D.U.C.K” DODGE UN- HEALED CHRISTIANS KINDLY

In essence, Big Mama’s words urge us to rise above the noise and reconnect with the fundamentals of faith, family, and community.

Embracing Big Mama’s values and engaging the steps toward personal change we can navigate the noise of our world with effective authenticity.
