Alger B. Bizor was born in Crockett, TX to the late Terry Bizor Sr. and Annie B. Bizor on June 27, 1944. He was raised in Tyler, the Rose Capital, within the Jones Valley Community. He peacefully passed away on March 3, 2026.
Alger accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1952 when his family joined Sandflat Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. He was baptized at Liberty Baptist Church in Tyler, and his faith remained a guiding force throughout his life. He was a devoted member of Denley Drive Missionary Baptist Church until he was called home to be with the Lord.
He attended T. J. Austin Elementary School, Emmett Scott Junior High School, and graduated from Emmett Scott High School, Class of 1964. Throughout his career, Alger worked with dedication and integrity in the service and production industries, including Sterling Faucet, General Electric, and Piggly Wiggly (which later became Minyard’s Grocery Stores). After retirement, he found great joy serving the community as a school crossing guard—a role that allowed him to serve others and make a positive impact in the lives of children. Their smiles always brightened his day and brought him happiness.
Alger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was deeply rooted in love, faith, and family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life; and truly became his heart. He opened his home and heart to anyone in need, always ready to lend a hand or share what he had. Though he may not have always had much, he had a very strong work ethic and a special gift for making things work and bringing people together with kindness and a sense of gratitude for life.
Although a lifelong resident of Dallas, Alger proudly rooted for the Los Angeles Lakers. He wore their purple and gold with pride and excitement, cheering his team on through every season. Sundays often meant family gatherings filled with laughter, conversation, and his favorite meal—fried catfish.
Alger strived to build a home centered on love, family, perseverance, and hard work. He is survived by his newlywed wife, Rena Bizor. His brothers Charlie Bizor (Valencia), Terry Bizor, Jr. (Emma), and sisters Marilyn Rainey and Evelyn Embry. Preceding him death were his brother Freddie Bizor and sister Sallie Mae Gossett. Also, his loving daughters, Sonya Renee Bizor, Wanda LaGail Wilson, Kimberly Bizor Tolbert; and his sons Christopher Bizor and Martin Cokes who preceded him in death. Also, his stepsons, Marvin Castle and Patrick McDonald and stepdaughter, Tawana Castle; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends who loved him dearly.
Alger B. Bizor will be remembered for his generous heart, strong work ethic, devotion to family, love for children, and unwavering loyalty to his Lakers. The memories, love, and lessons he shared will continue to live on through the generations of his family.
