DALLAS — Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey announced a friendly wager ahead of the NBA Playoffs Western Conference Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

If the Timberwolves beat the Mavericks, Mayor Johnson will gift sweets from the Oak Cliff chocolate shop Dude, Sweet Chocolate. If the Mavericks beat the Timberwolves, Mayor Frey will send his favorite dessert from Dancing Bear Chocolate in North Minneapolis.

Mayor Johnson tweeted on Wednesday, “So, @MayorFrey, how about we sweeten the deal for the @NBA Playoffs Western Conference Finals with a friendly wager? In the unlikely event the @Timberwolves win, I will send you some local Dallas sweets from Dude, Sweet Chocolate! What sweet treats will you be sending Dallas when the @dallasmavs win? #TexasBasketball \uD83C\uDFC0”

Mayor Frey responded, “We all know what happens when mayors bet on games…But, no need to wager here — we know the @Timberwolves are coming out on top. Jokes aside, thanks for organizing this, @Johnson4Dallas. If the @dallasmavs win, we’ll send you MPLS’ finest from Dancing Bear Chocolate.”

“It’s exciting to have another friendly sports wager with a fellow mayor, and I love that Mayor Frey is keen to play along,” said Mayor Johnson. “Betting on Dallas sports teams is always the best bet! The Mavericks are the best in the game, and I look forward to trying Dancing Bear Chocolate from Mayor Frey! Let’s go, Mavs!”

The Dallas Mavericks will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs Western Conference Finals on Wednesday, May 22, at the Target Center in Minneapolis at 7:30 p.m. CT.
