I am Ruth “truth” Torres; I embrace all of who I am. My mother was a white country girl with blonde hair and hazel eyes, who I deeply miss and hope to make proud. My father is a Black Puerto Rican.
As a single parent, I raised five beautifully diverse kids; two I gave birth to and three others when their Black, single mom died very young.
I have been a committed democratic voter since 1992. I have served for 16 years and over five thousand hours to the families and communities of North Texas delivering:
- Outreach ministry to at-risk-youth, elderly and disabled.
- Coordinated campaign work for Texas Organizing Project on Beto O’Rourke’s 2018 Senate Race and executed the 2020 election for Dallas County Democratic Party during COVID.
- Gained sponsorship and passage of two state-wide laws to stop street racing after 8-year-old Olivia was killed.
- Fought for public schools, lobbying in Austin multiple times and engaging in public awareness against vouchers trillion-dollar public land grab.
- Recovered $88 Million in misappropriated Dallas ISD bond dollars.
- Ongoing work for government transparency, affordable and non-discriminatory housing.
- Recovered medical benefits and paid time off for at least 400 workers at Dallas Ft. Worth Airport. This 10-year fight against government corruption is now heading to the Supreme Court while the contractor at the core of the litigation, Heaven Marie Diaz, is sentenced to 9 years in federal prison. This work resulted in retaliation costing me over $1.8 million in personal income and a permanent injunction preventing me from working in Texas without a law degree. Which is why I am currently in law school.
For 25 years as a Human Resources Professional, I promoted diversity and equity before DEI was popular or a dog-whistle. In 2019, I supported Scott Griggs (white male) for Dallas Mayor because the facts showed he was the most qualified, proven servant for Black, brown and all communities. I warned Black pastors Eric Johnson would be a traitor. For 2027, I hope Lynn McBee runs for Dallas Mayor.
The “No Kings” protests are historical because millions of predominantly white people, many which originally voted for Trump, are showing up for those unable to stand for themselves without facing threat of violence.
The facts are only going to change when we UNITE to stand up for each other by where we spend our dollars (based on diversity in executive leadership and political campaign funding) and at the voting booth. Vote for Ruth “truth” Torres, the proven Democrat committed to serving the families and communities of CD 5, Texas and the US against all enemies. The primary runoff early voting is May 18-22 and election day is May 26.
